Youth Ministries
H3 @ FCC
FCC’s H3 Youth Group stands for Hearts and Hands for Him. We put our time into discussions, activities, projects, and programs that celebrate Christ’s teachings and allow them to inform our life-decisions. H3 includes Chi Rho (grades 6–8) and Christian Youth Fellowship (CYF, grades 9–12). Occasionally, we just “hang-out,” sharing a movie or pizza or serving together—even whitewater rafting down the Ocoee River in Tennessee. Most of the time, we share our love for each other and for Christ in these ways:
Youth Group
Time: Wednesdays, 6:15–7:15 p.m.
Place: The Youth Room
Join us every Wednesday evening as we discuss topics relevant to teenage lives and to our Christian discipleship, plan for Youth Sundays, serve our church or our world, work with puppets, or share our questions and life experiences. All students in grades 6–12 are welcome. Youth Group is preceded by the all-church weekly fellowship dinner, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Youth Group is free (except on occasions when we might go somewhere that has a fee.) There is a cost for the dinner.
Missions
Time: Whenever we’re called
Place: Wherever we’re called to serve
Missions are the heart of our ministry and the soul of Christ’s teachings. To live the word of Christ is far more powerful than to just talk about it. Members of H3 have gone on mission trips to the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and with YouthWorks in Daytona Beach, Florida. Locally, we have stuffed give-away bags for the Disciples Door to Door ministry, painted scenery and helped with Vacation Bible School, bagged groceries for FCC’s Love Your Neighbor Food Ministry, sorted supplies for Family Promise, put together care packages for hurricane and disaster relief, conducted a church-wide yard sale for our missions and for FCC’s capital campaign, conducted the annual Fall Festival and Spring Celebration games and Easter egg hunt, babysat for young parents, captained a children’s book drive, served for fund-raising dinners, and championed annual giving projects. We’ve asked others to “Turn the White Tree Green” to raise money for a church-wide project at Christmas. We’ve sent members to Chrysalis, church camp, and other experiences where they could be closer to God’s word. H3 serves wherever and whenever a need should be filled.
Katie’s Kids Puppet Ministry
Time: During Youth Group and Youth Sundays
Place: Wherever we’re called
Whether supporting a message in worship or entertaining during a fellowship night, Katie’s Kids puppet ministry is one of the favorite components of Youth Group—much-anticipated by the congregation. Katie’s Kids is named for a young member of the youth program who dreamed of beginning a puppet ministry at FCC. She had begun the process of raising funds and inspiring church members to support the ministry when she suddenly passed away during her junior year of high school. We dedicate our puppet ministry to Katie’s special love and spirit that gave her the vision to serve others in such a selfless, inspiring, and fun way.
Youth Sundays
Time: Once in the fall and once in the spring
Place: FCC Sanctuary
Youth Sunday may be the most-anticipated service of the fall and spring seasons each year, when our H3 Youth Group conducts the entire worship service. A great deal of time, talent, vision, and love go into each service to make these times as special and God-filled as they can possibly be.
Drama Team
Time: Part of Youth Group
Place: During Youth Sundays and at other times
There’s nothing like showing a story to get a point across. Youth Drama Team members have participated in readers’ theaters, skits, plays, cantatas, and other dramatizations in order to illustrate the message that God’s love is unconditional and forever.
