Other Local Missions
Through Local Missions, money is allocated to support charitable organizations providing direct service to families in the tri-county area. During 2009–2010, First Christian Church supported the following organizations: Family Sunshine Center, Medical Outreach Ministries (Prescription Drug Assistance), Interfaith Montgomery, Group Homes for Children, and Common Ground Ministries. First Christian members have donated their time and talents to projects such as renovations and reading for the Addullam House, a children's book drive for the Family Sunshine Center, and building/renovation projects in Montgomery and in other communities in Alabama.
Family Sunshine Center is an agency whose purpose is to end family violence and to foster hope and healing. The Center serves families caught in the cycle of family violence, which includes spouse, child, sibling, and elder abuse. For more information, visit their Web site at www.familysunshine.org. Pastor Susan serves on the Family Sunshine Center's Board of Directors.
Common Ground is a Christian neighborhood redevelopment organization that serves a socio-economically disadvantaged area of West Montgomery. You can find out more by visiting their Web site at www.commongroundmontgomery.org.
Interfaith Montgomery is a local association of interfaith clergy that meets on the first Thursday of the month for fellowship and to build bonds between members of the faith community of Montgomery. The association helps organize events such as a Domestic Violence Prayer Vigil, a workshop for local clergy on domestic violence, and the Interfaith Holocaust Remembrance Service. Pastor Susan is a founding member of Interfaith Montgomery.
The Adullam House located in Wetumpka, Alabama, provides a loving home and learning environment for children whose parents are incarcerated in nearby prisons.
